OpenOBD (“OpenOBD”, “we”, “the app”) is built to respect your privacy. This policy explains what the app accesses on your device and how your information is handled.
OpenOBD has no user accounts, advertising, or analytics. The developer does not receive your vehicle readings, diagnostic results, trip history, or GPS routes. The app stores this information on your device.
All data the app creates — live vehicle readings, trip history, GPS routes, fuel statistics, and diagnostic (fault-code) results — is stored locally on your device. We do not operate servers that receive this data, and we do not sell or share it.
With your permission, OpenOBD accesses your location, including in the background, only while a trip recording is active and only to record its GPS route and show it on a map. OpenOBD stops location updates when the trip recording ends. Location data is not uploaded to OpenOBD or the developer. You can turn off location access at any time in system Settings; trip recording will continue without the route.
OpenOBD uses Bluetooth and your local network only to connect to your OBD2 (ELM327) adapter and read data from your vehicle. This communication is between your device and the adapter; no data is sent to us.
The app does not include third-party analytics or advertising trackers and does not track you across other apps or websites.
When you view a recorded route, the map itself is supplied by the mapping service built into your platform (for example, Apple Maps or Google Maps) and is subject to that provider’s privacy terms. OpenOBD does not upload your stored route to the developer.
If you choose Share, your selected trip CSV or diagnostic report is handed to the app or person you select. Copy for AI Analysis places a diagnostic summary on your device clipboard; OpenOBD does not send it to an AI provider. If you paste or share that summary elsewhere, the recipient service's privacy terms apply. If you choose Send Feedback, OpenOBD opens a draft in your mail app containing the app version, device model, operating-system version, and app language; you can review or delete it before sending. Information you deliberately share is then handled by the recipient and the service you chose.
The app may contact the Expo update service to check for and download app updates. OpenOBD does not add vehicle readings, diagnostics, VIN, or GPS routes to those requests. The service may process standard network request information under its own terms.
Because your data is stored only on your device, you stay in control. Deleting a trip removes it from the app, and removing the app deletes all of its data from your device.
OpenOBD is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect data from them.
We may update this policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date reflects the latest version.
